The Carlos Jáuregui Awards 2024 will be held on November 1 at the Manzana de las Luces in Rosario. These awards, organized by the Foundation for Equality, aim to recognize outstanding individuals and institutions within the LGBT community. The ceremony will take place as part of Pride Week, which this year has the motto "for equality, freedom, and non-discrimination, from a perspective of historical memory, human rights, genders, and diversity."
The Foundation for Equality will award the host, the Huésped Foundation, and 12 other individuals and institutions for their significant contributions to the LGBT community. These awards are named after Carlos Jáuregui, an icon for the LGBT community in Argentina. According to Pedro Paradisso Sottile, director of the Foundation for Equality, these awards are crucial as they promote historical memory and work on fundamental aspects such as sexual and reproductive health since 1989.
Among the honorees are journalist Ingrid Beck, director and screenwriter Lucas Santa Ana, theater actors Federico Lehmann and Matías Milanese, as well as various organizations such as the Argentine Gay Lesbian Integration Society (SIGLA), Zen Disco Córdoba, and LatFem, among others. During the ceremony, there will be tributes to prominent figures such as Nora Cortiñas, Carlos Jáuregui, and Lohana Berkins, who have made significant contributions to the LGBT community over the years.
The Foundation for Equality emphasizes the importance of intergenerational work and the inclusion of diverse struggles and groups in promoting diversity and equality. The event will feature a special "in memoriam" space to remember those who have left a legacy in the fight for LGBT rights. Among those being honored is the renowned Florencia de la Ve, who will receive this prestigious recognition.
